Distal motor and sensory branches of the median nerve. Proximal to the carpal tunnel, the palmar cutaneous sensory branch arises to supply sensation to the thenar eminence. Distal to the carpal tunnel, the median nerve divides into sensory and motor branches. Digital sensory branches supply the index and middle fingers and part of the thumb and fourth finger. Motor fibres supply the first and second lumbricals while the recurrent thenar motor branch innervates most muscles of the thenar eminence.
