It was thirteen years back that this had happened. There was this intern in our hospital who always detected very minimal double vision in the patients allotted to her.
Other students envied her in picking up the subtle findings.
Incidentally, I happened to be there in the emergency department while she was examining a gentleman brought there with headache and some vision problem.
This was what I saw. She was asking him whether he was having double vision, holding her hand out about a metre in front of the patient, "Please look here Sir, how many fingers do you see here?"
The gentleman promptly answered "Two".
"Is that so simple?" I wondered;
"…and oh my goodness", I found it, once and for all!
She was showing the hand with the index finger as well as the middle finger extended!
"No wonder all her patients had diplopia" I sighed.
